Small 8mm × 1.4mm ISO FDX-B microchip / PIT tag for research programs requiring international standards compliance in small wildlife, birds, reptiles, and fish — supplied as a sterile 10-pack.
The Trovan ID162B Midi is the small-format ISO FDX-B microchip / PIT tag — fully compliant with ISO 11784 and ISO 11785 — at 8mm × 1.4mm. It's substantially smaller than the conventional ID162C (11.5mm × 2.1mm), making it suitable for small wildlife, birds, reptiles, and small fish where conventional-size chips are too large.
ISO FDX-B is the international standard for animal identification. ID162B microchips can be read by any ISO 11784/11785-compliant reader worldwide. Best choice when your study population may later be encountered by other researchers, vets or facilities using different equipment, or when your ethics framework or funding body requires ISO compliance. For dedicated Trovan reading infrastructure, FDX-A (ID100 range) generally offers better read range. Read FDX-A vs FDX-B comparison →
Important — companion animals: Although ID162B chips meet the ISO standard required for companion animal microchipping in Australia, the chips supplied in this Research range are NOT registered with Central Animal Records. For companion dog, cat or horse microchipping with CAR registration, please see our Companion Animal Microchips range.
Each microchip is pre-loaded into an individual single-use sterile needle. Implantation uses the re-usable Trovan IM200 (1.4) Midi syringe implanter (sold separately). Each 10-pack includes 6 adhesive labels per chip.
